Guide to SACD: (Super Audio Compact Disc) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The precision of digital reproduction with the warmth and ambience of analog sound. In 2002 Sony and Philips created the Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) for superior storage of the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) format. SACD makes better use of the full 16 bits of resolution that the CD format can deliver. While the full potential of SACD can only be heard when played on a SACD machine, the disc does sound noticeably better than conventional CDs when played in a standard CD player. Compatibility is maintained by addition of a second layer that is not read by existing CD players. PLEASE NOTE: Only HYBRID SACDs can be played in conventional CD players. All other SACDs require a SACD player. |
