Backspace Unwind

Backspace Unwind is the sixth studio album from LAMB, the English duo of producer Andy Barlow & vocalist Lou Rhodes.

Backspace Unwind is both intricate and spacey with oscillating arcs and spiral patterns pulling Lou's intensely personal songs of the heart into alignment with Andy's crackling roar and deep thrum of the Universe. Ethereal voices and silvery choirs swirl in starry sonic skies buzzed with satellite static, quasar pings, red shift blur and unseen dark energy.

"Making this album has been a journey of discovery in so many ways", says Lou. "After making music together over a period of almost 20 years it's reassuring that new routes and approaches seem to abound. Over those years I think we've learnt that this journey needs no map; in fact tearing that map up, at every twist and turn, has become our regular gleeful practice. Listening now to the words of the title track Backspace Unwind they seem to describe the beginning of that process. I guess it was all about the feeling of starting a whole new venture; taking what had gone before and making something new. It's all about breaking even our own preconceptions."

"The first single We Fall In Love is about the chance intersection of two lives and the notion of stars aligning. As Satellites Go By and What Makes Us Human are also connected by their planetary themes and Nobody Else is visceral and heavenly all at once. Doves & Ravens is a story of letting go in the hope of return, and Only Our Skin is about the beauty of holding a loved one so close their souls are separated only by skin. In Binary was one of the first songs Lou wrote in a new-found exploration into free-association lyrics."I guess it's a form of meditation; letting yourself be a conduit for thoughts and images that pass freely through. In Binary flowed from there."

At the heart of things for Lou and Andy, LAMB has always been about a restlessness to challenge, not only musical boundaries but themselves. Backspace Unwind glows with this individual creative spirit and above all places the expression of human emotion at the front of the queue.
