The youngest brother of the late, great J Dilla releases his self-titled album, and pays homage to a diverse range of creative influences, working with the likes of Canadian beatmakers Potatohead People, Kaytranada, Mosiac, Noo Bap, and MC Moka Only who provides the "signature smoothed-out" vocal choruses to tracks like "Who Got It", "She Burned My Art" and "All Good Pt. 2".
Being true to his roots, the classic boom-bap sound is strong in tracks like "Perfect Game" and "French Kiss".
The younger Yancey brother stands on his own here, demonstrating his raw talent as a lyrcist, while also retaining the Yancey family flavour of beat architecture that will engage listeners and enthusiasts of neo-soul and hip hop in 2016.
