Release Date: Tuesday, 8 August, 2006

A remarkably beautiful album from an enthralling new Kiwi voice -- Miriam Clancy.

“With just eleven songs on her stunning debut album ‘Lucky One’, Miriam Clancy has immediately claimed her place in the long Kiwi tradition of great singer / songwriters.”
- Graham Reid

If Miriam Clancy’s name is new to you then you aren’t alone. While she’s been singing for well over a decade it was always in someone else’s band, but this is her time -- and with her gorgeous debut album ‘Lucky One’, she knows it.

‘Lucky One’ springs out of the speakers on catchy pop / rock tracks such as "Don’t Let It Get You Down", seduces with melodic subtlety on heartfelt ballads like "Giving Up The Day" and "Dry Your Eyes", and reaches for those deep unspoken parts of the soul with songs of sorrow and loss like the very personal "And So It Begins" and "The Game". This is truly a beautiful collection of songs!

Inspired by the likes of Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, Bob Seger and Sheryl Crow, the feisty 32-year-old has delivered an album that impresses for its lyrical maturity, sophisticated songcraft, her commanding and distinctive voice, and the raw emotions on display.

‘Lucky One’ is an album of texture and nuance, of memorable lyrics and melodies which grab on the first hearing. Just great songs.

Miriam’s background is a musical one -- her parents played in bands and music was a focus in their home. She studied music the old fashioned way: years spent working session jobs with bands from all over the country, touring often and also a clutch of studio experience. A trip to LA sparked a passion to write and perform her own songs, and as is now clear, she has successfully done that!

If intelligent singer / songwriters and Americana alt country artists just off the edge of the mainstream appeal to you, then you’ll need no further invitation to listen up to Miriam Clancy. She has stories to tell and a passionate voice full of emotional honesty.
