Brooke Singer {keyboard, songwriter} and Anita Clark {vocalist, fiddle, guitar} formed the Ragamuffin Children in ’06 and have already played an impressive number of gigs, including support for the well-known NZ band Goldenhorse and a concert at the Canterbury Folk Festival with the songstress Chris While.
The Ragamuffin Children like to make each show a delightful and memorable event. They can often be found talking vaguely about an array of subjects in between playing their beautifully crafted songs. This adds to the curious and charming nature of their performances -– which the pair have magically captured on their debut album ‘Werecat Lullabies’.
'Werecat Lullabies' is a gorgeous, delicate and strangely empowering album, featuring 12 original songs with a vast array of instrumentation -– including cello, clarinet and glockenspiel –- creating a lush soundscape for the girls’ affecting lyrics.
And oh boy can these girls write a song: their single "More Of Me" was recently released, having been recorded after it won a national songwriting competition run by Loop Recordings in association with Microsoft. Over 400 people entered, and Brooke won first place, making her arguably the best new songwriter in NZ.
