There are a multitude of images engraved in our memories of the Silver Ferns, but some stand out above the rest: Dame Lois Muir guiding her players to another victory; Waimarama Taumaunu's potent stare and the mana she holds; the explosiveness & unpredictability of Sandra Edge on the run; Bernice Mene coolly stealing another intercept; and the pure delight on the face of Anna Rowberry at leading the Silver Ferns to world champion status. Then there's the embodiment of modern-day brilliance -- the athleticism of a Casey Williams vertical leap, and the swish & smile of Irene van Dyk beneath the goalpost.
'Sterling Silver' brings these memories flooding back as it honours 20 women who have become icons of New Zealand netball during the last three decades. These were the years when netball came out of the shadows on rain-washed asphalt courts, and burst on to our television screens; snaring huge ratings in prime time viewing and winning the hearts of fans old & new.
This DVD blends archival footage of some of their unforgettable moments in the sport, with present-day conversations with the legends. 'Sterling Silver' gives an insight not just into their playing & coaching secrets, but reveals the person behind the champion -- their passion, drive & ambition, and a peek of who they are away from the sporting spotlight.
Music has always played a role in the game -- from emotion stirred by lyrics or adrenalin spurred by rhythm -- to inspire a team before battle. Each person has chosen the song that means the most to them, whether it represents a poignant netball moment, or simply who they are. Said tunes are included in this package on a BONUS CD.
