[ Mercury Records U.K. / 2 CD ]
Release Date: Monday, 2 November, 2009
U2's 25th anniversary reissue of 'The Unforgettable Fire' includes a pair of tracks left over from that album's 1983 sessions, as well as b-sides, remixes, material from the 'Wide Awake in America' EP and a DVD of videos and live performances. (DVD available in Super Deluxe format only).
The 1984 album -- like 2007's expanded reissue of 'The Joshua Tree' -- comes in four versions: a standard remastered CD; a deluxe edition, featuring a second CD and a 36-page book; a super-deluxe edition, which includes the two CDs, a 56-page book, five portfolio prints and a DVD featuring videos, concert footage and a making of documentary; and a 180-gram vinyl edition.
The bonus material, most notably, includes a pair of previously unheard songs -- "Disappearing Act" and "Yoshino Blossom" -- the band initially recorded in 1983 with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, and the former of which was finished this summer in France between European dates on its mammoth 360 Tour. Bono and The Edge played part of "Disappearing Act" on the BBC.
The bonus disc also includes the 'Wide Awake in America' EP, a number of period b-sides -- including the alternate "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" that backed "Pride (In the Name of Love)" -- as well as the "Wire (Celtic Dub Remix)," perhaps better known as the NME Dub Mix that was given away to readers on a free 7-inch flexidisc in 1985.
