Cookies

What is a Cookie

"Cookies" are small files stored on your local drive or in memory that contain information about something the site webmaster needs to keep track of.

marbecks.co.nz and Cookies

A cookie is used to store your site preferences (if you have them turned on) between visits to marbecks.co.nz, so that when you return your preferences can be restored, without having to log in. If you don’t have cookies enabled, then the site will revert to the defaults, until you log in. Once you login we will load your preferences again for the remainder of your visit.

A second cookie is also used to keep track of your shopping cart between pages (again if you have cookies turned on). This cookie is only temporary (it disappears after 3 days) so you can return to the site, and still have your shopping cart as you left it, for up to 3 days.

If you are sharing your computer with other people, particularly at an Internet Cafe or other public place, it is recommended that you click the logout button (in the "Your Account" section) before you leave the site.

Cookie Myths

Myth #1 - Cookies might give my computer a virus.
False - They don’t have the ability to carry viruses, and are not able to carry out any hostile or destructive functions.

Myth #2 - If I accept all cookies, then eventually they’ll "bog up"/slow down my system.
False - Cookie data is so small they can’t bog up your computer’s hard drive. In fact, the average size of a cookie ranges from 50-150 bytes. (It would take 50 million cookies to fill a 5 GB hard drive.)
