Bruce Mason is one of the most important New Zealand playwrights of the twentieth century. Born in Wellington in 1921, he moved with his family to Auckland at the age of five. There they lived close to Takapuna Beach, which was to become the setting for Bruce's great solo work, "The End of the Golden Weather"

The work was first performed by Bruce in 1960 and he toured it to all parts of New Zealand.
