Sargent was not, as we know, a specially modest man, but even he conceded that ''the best of me is not worthy of this masterpiece''. Although there are reservations, his performance, if not complete, is a vivid listening experience and the improvement in sound compared with the original ill-focused 1959 stereo LPs is astonishing. It is well worth its budget-price."
