1956 was the year of Elvis Presley: he recorded 22 career-defining tracks (including a reinterpretation of "Heartbreak Hotel"); made breakthrough appearances on the Steve Allen, Milton Berle, Dorsey Brothers and Ed Sullivan television shows and established himself as the biggest pop phenomenon since Frank Sinatra.

In this 1987 documentary, the dawning of the King's remarkable career is brilliantly captured through rare performance footage and a highly informative narrative (by Levon Helm of The Band), that moves through Presley?s signing of a major record contract, the evolution of his movie career, and subsequent national media exposure that skyrocketed him from stardom to superstardom.

Includeded are classic performances of "Good Rockin' Tonight", "Heartbreak Hotel", "Baby Let's Play House" and "Hound Dog".

Narrated by Levon Helm of The Band.
