Crystal Fighters' music melds Animal Collective toned delicacy with Soulwax inspired rave. This stunning collection of songs explores the themes in their singer Laure's grandfather's writings, which are the main inspiration for their music and the reason the band exist today.
Blending a style not too dissimilar to the Klaxons with grand sweeps of Spanish arena anthem pop, traditional Basque country instruments and folk, Crystal Fighters sound like a vast melting pot of competing influences...
From dreamy female vocals, insectoid electronic chittering and squeaking, finger tapping, a few chugs of metallic guitar, and swatches of synth swarming underneath only to reach up and stab through the mix at vital points, this quintet's debut, 'Star of Love' is a heady, immersive brew that also recalls aural visions of MGMT and The Knife.
Crystal Fighters are Sebastian (lead vocals, guitar), Gilbert (electronics, guitars, txalaparta, percussion) and Graham (guitar/ txalaparta), plus Laure and Mimi (vocals).
The Australasian edition of 'Star of Love' includes five, additional acoustic tracks as a bonus.
