Leo Fall (1873-1925) was the son of a military bandmaster and trained at the Vienna Conservatory. He made his debut as kapellmeister in Hamburg, before taking posts in Berlin, Cologne and Vienna, where his career as a composer of operetta took off. His compositions are ranked among the very best from the second period of Viennese operetta. The Dollar Princess, written in 1907, was one of his most popular works. - Alice, the daughter of an American millionaire, lives by the principle that "money rules the world".
