Celebrating the 70th anniversary of American pianist and conductor Murray Perahia (born April 19th, 1947). His Grammy®, Gramophone, Echo Klassik, Edison, Midem Classical and Japan Recording Academy Award winning recordings in a special 15-CD edition. All recordings in facsimile sleeves, 80-page booklet with complete liner notes and an appreciation by Jessica Duchen. Murray Perahia's prolific recording career has spanned some 45 years to date, encompassing music of three different centuries, from Bach to Bartók. Ever since his first LP, soon after his triumph at the 1972 Leeds International Piano Competition, aged 25, the great American pianist's performances have more than stood the test of time; and along the way they have been recognized with an astonishing crop of awards. The Grammys in the US, the Gramophone Awards in Britain, the Diapason d'or in France and the ECHO Klassik awards in Germany are among the organizations that have picked out many of Perahia's recordings as some of the finest of their day. This set is devoted to Perahia's award-winning discs for Sony Classical / CBS Masterworks.

"His virtuosity is totally self-effacing so that the listener's engagement with Chopin's world is complete." Penguin Guide on the Chopin Etudes

"One of Perahia's greatest recordings, full of grace, poetry and imaginative flair. A truly magnificent portrait of a master pianist at his peak." Gramophone on the Chopin ballades

"Bach keyboard playing doesn't come any finer than this. A set of true distinction, most truthfully recorded." Penguin Guide on the Bach partitas

"The Perahia cycle is a remarkable achievement; in terms of poetic insight and musical spontaneity the performances are in a class of their own. There is a wonderful singing line and at the same time a sensuousness that is always tempered by spirituality." Penguin Guide on the Mozart concertos

"His long experience with Bach's keyboard works gives him a natural point of entry to the Variations on a Theme of Handel, which is taken at quite fast tempos...Yet Perahia never draws attention to the technical challenges, and the music seems to flow out of him with complete naturalness." BBC Music on the Brahms

"Wonderful performances: delicacy in the Mozart as well as a feel for the Sonata's near-orchestral scale. A magisterial reading of Schubert's Fantasie." BBC Music Magazine on the Perahia/Lupu Mozart/Schubert

"The ASMF is Perahia's partner for these acclaimed 2000 and 2001 discs which, apart from a variety of keyboard colour and nuance that puts rival versions in the shade, benefit from an ideal recorded balance." Gramophone on the Bach keyboard concertos
