Amazing Eleven-Year-Old NZ Soprano Releases Her Beautiful Debut Album! - Mon, 19 Nov 2012

Gifted eleven-year-old New Zealand singer, Tayla Alexander, has recorded her first album, entitled 'Songbird'.

"I have never before heard a talent as young as Tayla, with crystal-clear highs as she possesses. She's incredible."
- Roger Marbeck

Classical crossover has experienced huge growth globally with leading Kiwi artists like Hayley Westenra paving the way for other emerging local talent. It is rare to find an undiscovered treasure like Tayla, a young soprano singer on the cusp of making her mark.

Tayla's voice, as evidenced on 'Songbird', is mature beyond her eleven years and will only advance further with time and dedication, both of which she has in spades. 'Songbird' was recorded by award winning musician, producer and arranger Bruce Lynch, who has worked with Cat Stevens, Kiri te Kanawa and Kate Bush.

Tayla Alexander immigrated to New Zealand from South Africa with her family when she was about six months old. From the age of about four she has been singing in front of audiences. She particularly enjoys doing charity work and has sung at the Auckland City Mission Christmas lunch event.

Tayla achieved record success in the 58th Annual Festival 2012 Junior Vocal (2012 North Shore Performing Arts Competition). The young soprano won all four categories and was the overall winner for her age group. Competition judge Janice Webb noted her maturity, level of difficulty of the songs, her technique and of course her voice. Janice Webb noted that it is "very rare for one singer to win all of the categories -- and I have only ever awarded one other competitor first place in all categories."

Tayla has also placed in her age category in the New Zealand Opera Idol (2011) hosted by the Opera Factory, and sung on TV One's 6pm news after receiving a Best Buskers award.

Tayla enjoys all music but particularly Classical Crossover Music. Her other interests include going to the movies with her friends, playing with her two golden retrievers and her cat.
