This is beyond praise. One of the finest, most exhilarating and engrossing piano recitals I have ever heard.....If you only buy one CD this year, make it this.

The recital disc is taken from two rare solo recitals in 1978 and 1979, which was hailed as a "Wonder Recital" by the Dutch press and contains several works that Ms. Argerich has never previously recorded (*). The repertoire includes Bach's Partita No. 2, Chopin's Nocturne in C minor (*) and Scherzo No. 3, Bartók's Sonata (*), Ginastera's Danzas Argentinas (*), Prokofiev's Sonata No. 7 (*) and encores by Scarlatti (*) and Bach. "Here," writes Bryce Morrison, "is a treasure beyond price, part of a legacy scattered across the musical universe that redefines the parameters of musical genius. Here, performances previously begged for, borrowed or stolen become officially available, capturing Martha Argerich in her infinite variety, 'live' and on the wing."
