Britten at Aldeburgh
Mozart - Symphonies 39 & 41, Concert Arias

[ Decca Records / CD ]

Release Date: Saturday 10 June 2000

From the BBC Radio archives!

Britten at Aldeburgh, a five-album series from the Decca and BBC Radio archives, profiles British composer/artist Benjamin Britten and his historic performances in Aldeburgh (home of the famous music festival). The recordings highlight Britten — as soloist, chamber musician and conductor — with legendary artists such as pianist Sviatoslav Richter and mezzo-soprano Janet Baker.
These special recordings have been newly remastered and released for the first time ever on CD to coincide with Aldeburgh Festival 2000.

Britten's interpretations of Mozart are featured on this disc. From 1956 to 1971 in Aldeburgh, he performed and conducted this composer repeatedly. The added bonus here is tenor Peter Pears, with whom Britten collaborated extensively, in magnificent voice in the two concert arias.
