Acclaimed recordings featuring the winning-combination of Marriner and the ASMIF
Bach's set of six Brandenburg Concertos is scored for various combinations of instruments. The concertos are dedicated to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg (1721), although it seems that they were never played for him. Bach's for them is "Six concerts avec plusieurs instruments".
These acclaimed recordings feature the winning combination of Marriner and the ASMIF with a distinguished line-up of soloists including Heinz Holliger, Henryk Szeryng, Michala Petri, Jean-Pierre Rampal and George Malcolm.
Two other concertos provide substantial fillers in which Gidon Kremer directs the ASMIF and performs in the popular Concerto for two violins (in which he plays both solo parts) and the Concerto for violin and oboe.
