"Ashkemnazy gives a commanding and magisterial account of the solo part of the First Concerto that is full of poetic imagination." [**(*) Three stars Penguin Stereo Guide]
Ashkenazy's acclaimed performances of Brahms's two piano concertos with Bernard Haitink, here brought together on one set.
As a surprise element, included is the not-often-heard orchestral version of the otherwise well-known Handel Variations. The orchestral arrangement is by Edmund Rubbra.
Also included are Brahms's Variations on a theme from Haydn's Divertimento for winds, better known as "St Antoni". All the recordings on this set are digital.
