Often described as an 'Impressionist' composer, French composer Claude Debussy was one of the most original voices of the early 20th Century, with a distinctly French musical outlook in his compositions.

He was an innovator of the first degree who revolutionised composition for the pianoforte and orchestra with instrumental colour and atmospheric sound world, and effects which are understated and contain much to enchant the ear.
