If Canada had been situated south, instead of north, of the United States, how different the world might be. As it is, much of the huge land mass which makes up its ten provinces (plus two territories) is too inhospitable for widespread occupation and the bulk of its people live in a wide belt along the American border. Inevitably, the vastly larger (in population) neighbour has been a magnet for those Canadians wishing to succeed in that arena of American international supremacy, entertainment. Thus it was that Gisele MacKenzie, born in Winnipeg, the capital city of Manitoba province, sought (with great success) to establish her reputation 'south of the border'.
