Many years after The Twist had become a major hit, Chubby Checker commented 'In a way, The Twist really ruined my life. I was on my way to becoming a big nightclub performer, and The Twist just wiped it out. It got so out of proportion. No one believes I have talent.' Yet Chubby capitalised on the success of the Twist, recording a string of songs in a twist style, even going so far as taking well known songs and giving them a twist feel too.
