Renowned for her stratospheric upper range and her amazing coloratura technique, Mady Mesplé, born 1931 in Toulouse, was the leading French lyric soprano from her debut in 1953 until the end of the 1980s. Hers was not a large voice but the brilliance and the accuracy was such that she could ride an orchestra without problem, even at fortes.
This set is a homage to this remarkable French soprano. These four CDs comprise opera, operetta, song and contemporary music in many of her most celebrated roles, such as Lucia di Lammermoor, Lakmé (the Flower Duet was her most famous success) or Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann).
