The latest album by the bassoon genius Sergio Azzolini in the early music world is a collection of works by Czech composer Leopold Koželhu and his cousin Jan Antonín Novotín.

World's first recording with period instruments!

Jan Antonín Novot studied music in Prague and then in Vienna under Gluck and Florian Leopold Gasmann. After Gasman's death, he became a disciple of Antonio Salieri and later became the court chapel master of Prague. Since 1784 he has been the conductor of the Basilica of St. Vitus in Prague and the organist of the Strahov Monastery for about 40 years. His hometown church music has a novel and symphonic character.
Leopold Koželhu, a brother of Jan Antonín Novotin and famous as a rival of Mozart, was born in Bohemia. Did. Since 1784, he has also been involved in the music publishing business, and Mozart also publishes works from his publisher. Following Mozart's death, he concurrently served as the imperial court chapel master and court composer in 1792, writing a huge number of works such as instrumental music, chamber music, and religious music as requested, but most of them are now forgotten. It is said that one of the reasons for this is that it was so prolific that not only critics but also Mozart and Beethoven criticized it as "the quality of the work is poor". However, that style influenced Beethoven and Schubert. The symphonies recorded here have the feeling of running through like the gale of "Mozart: Symphony No. 40" composed at about the same time.

Sergio Azzolini, a genius of the early music world, will play the bassoon solo on this album. Azzolini began playing as the principal player of the European Youth Orchestra while attending Hannover College of Music, and has received worldwide attention as one of the few wind instrument soloists, and is also focusing on period instrumentalists. He has also released numerous recordings and received many awards, and has been active as a member of influential chamber music groups such as the Sabine Meyer Orchestra Ensemble and the Maurice Burg Trio. He is currently a professor at Basel University of Music, participating in the music director of Kammer Academy Potsdam and various early music ensembles, discovering unknown scores, and re-editing existing published scores. This album uses period instruments (produced by Kaspar Tauber in 1794). Oboe Giovanni de Angeli learned from Ingo Goritzki and Maurice Bourgue. He is the winner of the "Tokyo International Oboe Competition" and "Prague Spring" competition, and has appeared as a soloist in many concert halls and famous festivals. We are also enthusiastic about early music using period instruments. Here we use a replica of an instrument made by Carl Augustin Grenser in Dresden. Conductor Leonardo Muzzi grew up in Naples and studied recorders at the Rotterdam Conservatory. With a Dutch scholarship, he studied baroque music and playing ancient instruments at Basel Scola Cantorum. In 2014, he founded "Camera Rousseau" by old musical instrument players from Basel Scola Cantorum and the Geneva State Academy of Encienne, devoting himself to the historically informative performances of classical Romantic works. He mainly plays the works of lesser-known composers, and introduces works that are not influenced by the tradition of interpretation. Koželhu's work, which is rarely played, is also featured here, and is the world's first recording with a period instrument.
