The unfairly neglected music of Cornelis Dopper

'…Matthias Bamert's hands were just the safe pair it needs. His readings make as strong a case for Dopper as I've heard.'
Fanfare

In a chance to re-evaluate the unfairly neglected music of Cornelis Dopper, Chandos presents premiere recordings of his Second Symphony and the two Päâns. They were recorded in Holland by the Residentie Orchestra The Hague and Matthias Bamert.

The Residentie Orchestra The Hague was founded in 1904 by musicians who left the Concertgebouw orchestra to play with their colleagues in The Hague. Under guest conductors such as Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Leonard Bernstein, Otto Klemperer, Claudio Abbado, Bruno Maderna, Pierre Boulez, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and its chief conductors including Willem van Otterloo, Jean Maritnon, Hans Vonk and since 1992 Evgenii Svetlanov, the orchestra has become famous for its original and progressive programmes. The Orchestra's several festivals and concert series such as those based on the works of Schoenberg, Reger, Scriabin and Messiaen have enhanced this reputation. The Orchestra has received standing ovations for its recent tours of Switzerland and France.
