BRAHMS
Symphonies (complete)
Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra / Riccardo Chailly

[ Decca Collectors Edition / 3 CD ]

Release Date: Wednesday 20 December 2006

"The recording is outstanding, as is the playing of the full orchestra" The Classical Good CD Guide.

Riccardo Chailly has built up a substantial Decca discography since his first recording for the label in 1978 – the complete Guglielmo Tell.

In 1982 he signed his first exclusive contract with Decca and in 1985 it was announced that he would take up the appointment as Principal Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in September 1988. One of the first recordings Chailly made with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was of Brahms – Symphony No.1 and the Academic Festival Overture and he went on to complete the cycle of symphonies over the next three years.

These recordings have not been available for some time and are reissued as a collector edition alongside his complete cycles of the Bruckner & Mahler Symphonies.

First integral release of Riccardo Chailly's acclaimed Brahms Symphony cycle.
