These delightful concerti from the mid 1730s are scored for recorders, oboes, lutes and strings. Handel seems not to have been closely involved in the assembly and publication of these pieces and there is some controversy about the authorship of '4b' (track 17). This was probably not by Handel at all and was replaced by another in the second edition. At the same time the Fifth Concerto was extended by a further three movements. Despite all of this, both of the Fourth Concerti are contained here as well as the extended Fifth Concerto.
