This is the second Encore release of Sibelius symphonies played by the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Karajan: the first CD contains the Second Symphony and En Saga (Encore 0946 3 41439 2 9 D & T version/0946 3 41441 2 4 Angel version).

Karajan was a great exponent of Sibelius's music and recorded all seven symphonies for EMI with the Philharmonia Orchestra in the 1950s. In the late 70s and early 80s he recorded them all again with the Berlin Philharmonic, with the exception of numbers 3 & 7.
