CPE Bach worked on his oratorio Die Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt Jesu in collaboration with the librettist Karl Wilhelm Ramler and it was published in 1787. Bach considered it to be his greatest masterpiece - a verdict agreed upon by audiences at the time, and succeeding generations of composers, including Haydn and Beethoven who both drew inspiration from it.
