Australia's foremost composer Peter Sculthorpe is regarded as one of the most significant composers today.
The Australian Chamber Orchestra has already released one recording on Chandos (CHAN 10016) to tremendous critical acclaim. The technical prowess and the vibrancy of this young orchestra's music-making made it one of the hits of the BBC Proms in London in 2002.
Peter Sculthorpe has had a close relationship with the Australian Chamber Orchestra since the ensemble's formation in 1975 and has composed many works for it, including two works on this disc, Lament for cello and strings and Sonata No. 2.
