Kagan was beyond all doubt one of the most shining stars of the small constellation of international violinists.

Kagan (1946-1990) got launched on his international career on winning Finland's first International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in 1965. This was followed two years later by second prize in the Tchaikovsky Competition. A pupil of David Oistrakh, Kagan followed firmly in the footsteps of the Russian violin school and appeared in duos with Elisabet Leonskaya, Svyatoslav Richter, Aleksei Lyubimov, Vasily Lobanov and Natalia Gutman. Kagan was beyond all doubt one of the most shining stars of the small constellation of international violinists.
