"Magnificent solo singing and breathtaking choral contributions"
(MusicWeb Feb 2005)

"From a musical standpoint this issue stands out, with three breathtakingly original cantatas from 1724-5. Flautist Liliko Maeda's limpid, articulate and sometimes dazzling contributions set the seal on an issue whose seemingly greater expressive commitment that that found in some previous issues is profoundly satisfying. Bravo!"

"Magnificent solo singing and breathtaking choral contributions"
(MusicWeb Feb 2005)

The project to release the complete Bach Cantatas began with a first recording taking place almost exactly 9 years ago, and has now reached the 25th volume. Looking back on the reviews of the previous installments is anuplifting experience: 'indispensable', 'eminent', ' top of the list' and 'remarkable' are only a few of the words used about the interpretations by Masaaki Suzuki and the Bach Collegium Japan. And when Jonathan Freeman-Attwood of Gramophone chose volume 23 as his record of the year, he wrote: 'Of all Bach enterprises in recent decades, there can be few as consistently fulfilling as Masaaki Suzuki's series of cantatas.' All this is something which calls for a celebration - and celebrate we will. Volume 25 will be released in a special edition, packed in a slip-case together with a separate, 20-page, full-colour booklet with photos, a comprehensive listing of the cantatas released up to now, and an appraisal of the series by Bach specialist Dr. Peter Wollny from the Bach-Archive in Leipzig. In short - this the first printing of the CD will be a collector's item! But of course the important thing is the disc itself, and on it Masaaki Suzuki and the BCJ are back in their usual form. They are joined by three soloists familiar from many previous volumes as well as a new-comer, the Canadian counter-tenor Daniel Taylor, who has made a name for himself both on the stage (for instance at Glyndebourne) and in the concert hall, collaborating with, among others, Philippe Herreweghe and William Christie.
