"A fascinating recording... Nagano captures the reverence and agitation of the symphony perfectly..."
- The Independent (UK)

Performances of at least three of Bruckner's symphonies raise the same problem: which version to choose? In the case of the Third Symphony, at least three versions exist. The differences between them affect the musical material, the formal conception, the balance of the work's proportions and its sonorities. It is the first version of 1873, neither published nor performed during Bruckner's lifetime, that Kent Nagano presents here. Kent Nagano is well known to music lovers around the world through his recordings. After his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in the 1990s, he was hailed by New York Magazine as "the next Leonard Bernstein." In 2001, Musical America magazine named him Conductor of the Year. Founded after the end of World War II as the "RIAS Symphony Orchestra" (RIAS: Radio in the American Sector), the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester has always had a special relationship with the United States. Since his appointment in 2000, as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Nagano has proved a fitting successor to his illustrious predecessors in Berlin, Ferenc Fricsay, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly and Vladimir Ashkenazy, and is poised to bring this orchestra to new heights.
