An early death prevented Raitio from fully achieving the potential that his small but distinguished body of completed works amply demonstrates.
Like his compatriot and colleague Aarre Merikanto, Raitio's music was scarcely understood in his lifetime, and had only recently begun to receive a sympathetic hearing from his compatriots. A fascinating case of what might have been.
