"Overall a must for fans of Tavener, but equally an important work that is well worth exploring further"
(MusicWeb Jan 2006)

"Not all Tavener works – yet in some pieces he makes an incredibly valuable contribution. This is one of those works"
(MusicWeb March 2006)

Black Box presents a world-premiere recording of this fantastic new work for soprano, string quartet and tibetan mixing bowls by one of the most popular contemporary composers.

Featuring world-famous soprano Patricia Rozario, who's name has become synonymous with Tavener's vocal music, the piece was commissioned by long-term Sanctuary recording artists The Schubert Ensemble.

The piece sets texts by Swiss philosopher and poet Frithjof Schuon, with whom Tavener had a life-changing mystical encounter which shaped his attitude towards his own spirituality, and is dedicated to Schuon's widow, Catherine.

The Schubert Ensemble and Patricia Rozario will be performing the work at several festivals during 2005 and 2006.

"...Rozario soars impressively as the Schubert Ensemble caress, scurry and chime. It's Tavener's most beguiling piece in years" The Times
