Mendelssohn's youthful genius produced hardly anything more attractive, fresh and sparkling than the music for Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Especially the overture has become a repertoire piece on its own. Not to mention the Wedding March….

How often have you seen or heard the play together with the music? Chances are that the answer is "never”. Now here is an opportunity to rectify this. On this double-CD we have combined the two components: orchestra and actors.

Listening to this production makes you an aural witness to the entire play. You can hear soloists Lynne Dawson and Susanne Mentzer with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, but also members of the Peter Hall Company reciting texts from the here slightly abridged play

An unusual production with a special attraction for Shakespeare and theatre lovers.
