"These two works promise and deliver much. I am quite sure there are yet more discoveries aplenty to be made in the Arnell catalogue"
(Recording of the Month MusicWeb April 2006)
Every so often one discovers a forgotten score, which on re-examination has the force of a revelation. Just such a one is Richard Arnell's epic Third Symphony. Written in New York between 1944 and 1945, this glorious and expansive musical canvas is surely one of the great scores of the time by a British composer. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra and conductor Martin Yates give it their all - a find not to be missed. Also include is Arnell's glorious New Age - Overture, composed in 1939.
Recorded at Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow 4-5 September 2005
