In the middle of April 1955 and with typical flair, the EMI producer Walter Legge capitalised on the presence in London of the distinguished German pianist Walter Gieseking, who was at Abbey Road Studios to record 16 of Mozart's songs with Legge's wife, the celebrated soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.
