[ EMI Karajan Collection / CD ]
Release Date: Tuesday 20 June 2006
Herbert von Karajan is recognised as one of the greatest conductors of the last century and during his career he produced a vast discography of what are still considered some of the greatest recordings ever made.
To celebrate his work and legacy, EMI Classics is re-releasing twenty-five of his best recordings made over the course of his relationship with EMI, entitled The Karajan Collection.
The Karajan Collection focuses on the conductor's work with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic and Philharmonia London orchestras and the recordings that he made with them throughout his long career.
Of the twenty-five titles in this new collection only the recordings of the Beethoven Piano Concertos Nos.3 & 5 and of Schubert's Symphonies Nos.8 & 9 have been available in recent years. The remaining twenty-three recordings are being re-issued specially for the collection for the first time in many years. The collection also includes the famous Philharmonia Promenade Concert recording which was first issued on LP back in March 1956 on Colombia Records. It is now being released in its original form for the very first time on CD.
Each title has been remastered to the highest standard by the skilled engineers at Abbey Road using the Abbey Road Technology
