The international fame of Jean Sibelius rests principally upon his orchestral works, above all teh seven mighty symphonies. His substanial output of smaller compositions tends to be overlooked, even though both the number and the quality of his songs places him among the foremost Nordic song composers. The programme on this CD presents a cross-section of his art as a song composer and contains well known as well as rarely performed songs from many periods of his career.
