New Babylon / A Year is like a Lifetime (film scores)

In celebration of the Shostakovich Year, the SWR Kaiserslautern Orchestra presents a feature-length program of two of Shostakovich's many film scores. The lively and sardonic wit of Shostakovich's early score for the silent film "New Babylon" stands in stark contrast to the darkly-hued orchestrations of the much later "A Year is Like a Lifetime", composed in the same year as the searing dramatic cantata "The Execution of Stephan Razin" and the massive, choral 13th Symphony. This is a collection that NO Shostakovich lover will want to be without!
