Piano Concerto No. 2 (with Ravel-Piano Concerto in G)
Yundi Li (piano) / Berliner Philharmoniker / Seiji Ozawa

[ Deutsche Grammophone / CD ]

Release Date: Tuesday 1 July 2008

"Power and brilliance, and enchantment too, from a marvellous young pianist" (Gramophone Magazine Editor's Choice May 2008)

"Yundi Li goes from strength to strength. Deeply thoughtful and formidably virtuosic, he makes light work of Prokofiev's nightmarish technical demands. This is a really superb disc. As for Seiji Ozawa, he comes in for some bad press these days but here he is a quite wonderful accompanist, coaxing haunting, unforgettable sounds from the Berlin Phil."
(Gramophone Magazine Editor's Choice May 2008)

Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 is the most brilliant and virtuosic of his concertos for both soloist and orchestra - and one of the least recorded. Yundi Li is joined by one of the world's greatest orchestras, the Berliner Philharmoniker, under Seiji Ozawa.

The Ravel Piano Concerto, a perennial hit with its haunting and jazzy second movement, rounds out the programme.

With this recording, Yundi Li makes another significant step forward in his recording career. His first concerto album - the Chopin/Liszt Concertos No. 1 - featured a repertory he is known to play well. With this second concerto album, Yundi Li discovers new ground with completely new, highly challenging works and in collaboration with a legendary orchestra and conductor.
