"The positive joy of the singing is palpable. Accordingly, music critics showered them with rave reviews in a country where standards of cathedral singing are the world No 1. Take a bow, Brian Law." (Ian Dando NZ Listener)

Anthems, Psalms & Canticles recorded live during the Christchurch Cathedral Choir's 2008 tour of England.

For 2 weeks of the tour the choir was appointed Choir in Residence at Westminster Abbey.

The music featured here spans 500 years and are fine examples of English Cathedral music. Composers include Schutz, Palestrina, Stanford and Howells to name a few.

The live recordings are beautifully captured with great work undertaken by Mike Clayton in post-production. You really get to experience the magical sound created in these special surroundings.

This recording is a must for any New Zealand classical section. The choir are very active particularly in the South Island.

"For Brian Law, it was a return to his English cathedral roots when he became music director of the ChristChurch Cathedral in 2003, to add to his existing job as music director of the Christchurch City Choir. Recently, he took the cathedral choir on tour around the United Kingdom singing in the great venues such as King's College, Cambridge, and Westminster Abbey. From the almost all-male choir of about 29, favouring boy trebles, Law extracts a darker, continental passion as against the purer white tone of UK Cathedral. Among the earlier writers, the stand-out is the choir's brisk and joyful Schutz Cantate Domino. The expansive full-toned singing pours out in Stanford's lengthy extrovert Te Deum. Law's repertoire selection is strong. The positive joy of the singing is palpable. Accordingly, music critics showered them with rave reviews in a country where standards of cathedral singing are the world No 1. Take a bow, Brian Law." (Ian Dando NZ Listener)
