"Hearing it is impressive enough, but the live DVD version adds to the experience"
(BBC Music Five Stars)

"Hearing it is impressive enough, but the live DVD version adds to the experience...watching the musicians gesturing, grimacing, throwing out their hands and even dancing with such uncontrived enthusiasm is a reminder of how theatrical the simple business of performing music can be."
(BBC Music)

"Golijov's full-blooded account combines all the drama and intensity of a Greek tragedy with the sultry physicality of a Latin-American street carnival...The performance featured here is from the 2008 Holland Festival and includes at times quite breathtaking performances from [the] soloists"
(Gramophone)

"a vibrant, sonically colourful experience ...an engaging tapestry in which demotic forms and religious chorale combine with piquant, astringent energy."
(The Independent)

Deftly exploiting the popular appeal and emotional immediacy of samba, salsa, flamenco, tango, and the elemental vigor of folk and popular motifs, Grammy® winner Osvaldo Golijov's La Pasión según San Marcos sets Christ's betrayal, death, and resurrection amidst the streets of Latin America.

Osvaldo Golijov since refined Pasión to such an extent that Deutsche Grammophon felt it imperative to release this new studio recording in tandem with the DVD of a 2008 live performance. These supercede the 2000 audio-only live recording of the premiere by incorporating the revisions of "one of the most gifted composers of a new era" (All Things Considered, NPR).
