The Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, a young singers project, presents an opera by Donizetti never before performed on the La Scala stage. Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (Viva la mamma!) is a farce in two acts which premiered in Milan April 20, 1831, inspired by two comedies written by Antonio Simone Sografi between 1794 and 1816. It follows the theatrical tradition of Goldoni, Gozzi and Metastasio, and subjects the 'bad' habits of the operatic world to biting, sardonic criticism.

The action takes place in a theatre where rehearsals turn crazy in the rich tradition of opera buffa, and includes a woman played as a male transvestite. Marco Guidarini directs the Orchestra of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala. Italian actor, director and writer Antonio Albanese, a master of wit and satire, makes his debut as opera director.
