The son of obscure Russian immigrants, by the time Yehudi Menuhin died in 1999 he was arguably the best-known musician in the world. The three concertos presented on this recording are important for our full understanding of this great-hearted musician. Menuhin might have been born to play Mendelssohn, whose E minor Concerto he was already performing by the time he was eight years old. This is the second of Menuhin's four recordings of the work. His recording of the much less familiar D Minor Concerto was made two days after he had given the world première public performance in Carnegie Hall. This recording of the Bruch G Minor Concerto was Menuhin's only collaboration on disc with the Boston Symphony and Charles Munch.
