"Michael Halász too has the full measure of this repertoire, and this is one of the most successful collections of Liszt's symphonic poems to have emerged in recent years. He draws some remarkably fine playing from the Katowice Radio Orchestra. The brass playing is very impressive throughout, especially the trombones and tuba, who have the epic main theme of Mazeppa, but its grandiloquence is no less powerful in Les Préludes, weighty and never brash. The recording is spacious, with full natural string-textures, but it is the resounding brass one remembers most." Four Stars Penguin Guide (Key recording)
