Maderna was still immersed in the world of Bartok as a brilliant young graduate, and this influence is again strong in the more complex and intricate Concerto for two pianos and instruments. A comparison between these intensely individual early works and the mature large-scale masterpiece Quadrivium delivers new perspectives on one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.
