This CD features Finnish pianist Henri Sigfridsson performing works by Finnish composer Selim Palmgren.

Selim Palmgren (1878-1951) is regarded as the most important post-romantic composer for piano in Finland. The core of his output is formed by his five piano concertos and more than 300 small pieces for piano.

The Sonata in D minor is Palmgren's most extensive work for piano and it was hailed as a milestone in Finnish music.

Henri Sigfridsson (b. 1974) is one of the major Finnish musical talents of his generations and has built up a successful international career.

"Palmgren has a powerful voice...and demands just the kind of full-blooded, many-faceted performance that Sigfridsson delivers." (BBC Music)

"I found myself longing for music of greater substance and flavour. What is unarguable is the quality of Sigfridsson's performances, which are uniformly superb...I hope he will go on to give us further recordings from Palmgren's 300 or so piano works." (Gramophone)
