This first release of a concert featuring 56-year-old Friedrich Gulda and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at the Münchner Klaviersommer 1986 is truly legendary. Gulda plays and simultaneously conducts Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 26 like no one ever had before.
The charismatic and exceptional pianist Gulda turned to "Mr. Mozart", as he was accustomed to calling the Austrian composer with Viennese reverence, quite late in his career, only to dedicate himself to Mozart with heart and soul and study his music right up to the end of his life. In this dedication he was cautious to avoid any kind of sentiment, anything phony or simple sing-song.
Friedrich Gulda and the Munich Philharmonic delight the audience with passion, musical perfection and Mozart sounding fascinatingly new.

"Gulda directs from the keyboard with dynamism. His improvisatory instincts can be savoured in full flow as he fills out those little corners that Mozart's scores only hint at." (BBC Music Magazine, Jan 2013)
